Biography

It was in late February of 97 that THUMM was conceived. Chris Peddle wanting to start up a band with a different flare received a call on a late Tuesday night. It was on this night Chris was introduced to Steve Kennedy. The two shared similar interests in music, so they decided that they should get together the next morning and jam out some tunes to see what comes out of the mess. The next day the two got together to see what could happen, tunes were typical, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer and others...but an interest in the loose groove style seemed the most interesting. From listening to bands like Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Cathedral and the local band sHEAVY, the two found their knack. Four months of jamming, looking for a drummer and bassist lead to the forming of THUMB. The name had been taken from a Kyuss song whose style really, shadowed their own. The band had to change their name to THUMM due to another band of the same name.  The rest is yet to be determined and the grooves still burn within the souls of four who call themselves THUMM.

THUMM formed in late June, when Steve Kennedy (Lead Guitar, Vocals) and Chris Peddle (Rhythm Guitar) were introduced to (bass player) Andrew "Fish" Fisher and thereby acquired Pete Hanlon (Drums) to complete the band. After about a week of jamming to originals, they decided to take it to the next step, recording a demo. The demo "Rule of Thumb" was recorded under the band's own label "Thumb up your Ass", and the tape was released in mid July. Thumm's style of music is said to be "Heavy Riff Rock / Stoner Metal / Loose Groove"; a mix of Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Sabbath, and Fu Manchu.

Thumm has one CD released "Black Moon Sand" and are currently in the beginning stages of recording their next CD.
